A full survey of the current structure was carried out prior to the works starting and our Engineers were able to use point cloud data to create a 3D model of the existing building, and subsequently model the areas to be demolished in order to provide a detailed proposal.

Following our appointment, we faced many challenges due to the nature of the proposal. Canham Consulting needed to ensure that high level collaboration with external parties was undertaken at RIBA stage 3 and large areas needed to be adapted to allow MEP services to run through the voids.

Some aspects of our role included, the structural frame design with restricted structural zones negating the requirement for Westok Beams and Ultra Shallow Floor Beams. This required carefully thought-out structural alterations to the existing steel frame for the
provision of a new roller shutter Mega Door, flood risk assessment, drainage design, 3D level design, ground investigation advise.

Externally, reinforced earth banks were utilised where possible to reduce the need for retaining walls and a large on site storage tank had to be decommissioned and reinstated elsewhere to allow for additional parking.

Our due diligence and attention to detail enabled us to create a proposal that required minimal change as the project progressed and our client was able to see the design and efficiency at each stage of the process.

In June 2021, after an initial set back of 6 months due to the pandemic we are pleased to see the team settling into their new headquarters and are proud to have worked collaboratively with many companies to support this local life saving charity.
