The new teaching block for Lowestoft College is not only the first phase
of a major redevelopment of the college, but is also the eye-catching flagship
building of the college site.
The amalgam of steelwork and concrete construction has created a stunning
overall visual effect which is a major enhancement to the college and the area
as a whole.
CCL was appointed as Civil, Structural and Drainage Engineers to produce detailed
drawings and specifications for the client. The structural designs were not only
required to provide the necessary strength to the building but were, in many cases,
an integral part of the overall aesthetics of this project.
Such sensitive designs required a very close collaboration by CCL with the architect and
contractor, and the resulting construction achieved the desired results for our client.
Tekla 3D modelling was an integral part of this contract and this allowed all possible
solutions to be viewed by our client before committing to the final design.
